In the market for a heat pump? An Aira heat pump might be the one for you - here’s why.
Make no mistake, gas boilers are slowly but surely on their way out, especially as the UK needs to reach net-zero emissions. Sure, they’ll be around for a good few years yet, but it’s definitely worth thinking about future proofing your home’s heating.
The best tool for the job? A heat pump, without a doubt. Capable of keeping your home warm and toasty using the ambient heat of the air or ground outside, a heat pump is a much greener alternative to gas boilers. And, they’re far more efficient to run than gas boilers too, although until electricity prices go down, a heat pump does remain slightly more expensive to run than a new gas boiler (but cheaper than old gas boilers and electric heating).
We’ve looked at heat pumps from Aira specifically, reviewing its main range of heat pumps, what they cost, and how they perform. We’ve also included reviews from customers, so you can see what real Aira heat pump owners think about their systems.

Key Points:
Aira heat pumps are designed and engineered in Sweden and manufactured in Poland.
Its heat pumps use Aira Intelligence, an AI-powered feature that optimises your heat pump’s performance based on usage patterns, weather forecasts, and real-time data from sensors.
Aira currently offers heat pumps in three power outputs: 6 kW, 8 kW and 12 kW outdoor units.
Mid-sized UK properties are best suited to Aira heat pumps; very small or large homes might want to look elsewhere.
What Aira Offers
Aira offers heat pumps manufactured with Scandinavian efficiency and aesthetics in mind. This makes the available heat pumps more than suited to any cold weather the UK might throw at them, while looking great at the same time!
The heat pumps from Aira are all monobloc air source heat pumps, so you’ll need to make sure you have suitable space outside your home to have one installed. You’ll also need room inside for the indoor unit and buffer tank, but if you’re replacing a boiler you’ll very likely free up the space for this. The indoor unit and buffer tank is what’ll heat your water and keep your home warm.
Additionally, Aira’s heat pumps come with Aira Intelligence, which is AI-powered technology built into the units to make them more efficient at heating your home. In the simplest terms, Aira Intelligence automatically adjusts your heat pump’s output so it keeps your home warm and toasty while wasting as little energy as possible.
How Much Do Aira Heat Pumps Cost?
Aira doesn’t list exact prices for its heat pumps on its website; instead, you can get a unique quote for a setup suitable for your home’s specific needs. However, we did some digging, got some quotes, and whipped up the table below with some reliable cost estimates. The key takeaway here is that it's really worth applying for the government’s Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS), as it could knock a cool £7,500 off the total cost of an Aira heat pump.
Model | Suitable Home Size | Price with BUS Grant (£7,500 Deducted) | Price without BUS Grant |
6 kW | <150 sq m | £6,729 | £14,229 |
8 kW | 150-200 sq m | £9,000 | £16,500 |
12 kW | >200 sq m | £11,000 | £18,500 |
Keep in mind too that you may need to upgrade the radiators in your home. Heat pumps work at a lower flow temperature than boilers, so they require a larger overall radiator surface area in order to sufficiently heat a home.
Installing an Aira Heat Pump
The installation process for an Aira heat pump is all rather smart — Aira uses its bespoke configuration tool to build a 3D model of your home, so its technicians can exactly calculate heat loss and other factors to determine what size system you’ll need.
Once all this is agreed, Aira’s trained installers will take two to four days to install the system in your home, depending on whether or not you need new radiators or otherwise. Roughly, it’ll follow this:
Day 1: Site preparation and placement/installation of the outdoor unit.
Day 2–3/4): Indoor unit fitting, pipework installation, electrical connections, and full system commissioning. You’ll be ready to go after this!
After installation, Aira provides 24/7 remote monitoring to make sure everything goes smoothly. You’ll also get a full demonstration of how to use the Aira app and thermostat (both of which are pretty simple and intuitive to use).
Aira Heat Pump Performance & Technology
Aira’s heat pumps are some of the best performing around, with a genuinely impressive Seasonal Coefficient of Performance (SCOP) of 4.7 at 35°C flow temperature. In other terms, this means the heat pump is delivering 4.7 units of heat for each unit of electricity — an efficiency rating of 470%. Not even the most efficient boilers go past 98% efficiency.
Heat pumps from Aira also operate effectively down to -25°C, which realistically we’ll almost never see in the UK. So, even when the mercury drops as low as it can in the UK, your Aira heat pump will still keep you warm.
If you’re concerned about environmental impact, all of the heat pumps Aira offers use R290 propane refrigerant, which has a low global warming potential.
And, Aira’s heat pumps all use Aira Intelligence, which utilises AI-powered technology to automatically adjust temperature output in real-time. The technology is constantly monitoring your heat pump, identifying and working to fix any inefficiencies, which, Aira claims, will save you money on your energy bills. Anything Aira Intelligence can’t fix gets passed onto the dedicated local Aira team, who can fine tune your heat pump remotely or schedule an in-person visit to sort out the issue.

What Do Customers Think About Aira?
We checked out Aira on Trustpilot and saw it’s sitting pretty with an average review score of 4.5/5, from just over 1,000 reviews — impressive stuff! Customers loved the professionalism of installation teams, clear communication, and responsive aftercare. Several reviews highlighted that if a property wasn’t suitable for an Aira heat pump, the survey fee was refunded.
As for the heat pumps themselves, we noticed most customers were really happy with how the outside units looked, and their overall performance. Plus, we saw lots of glowing reviews about how easy the app was to use, which’ll be great news for the less tech-savvy among us.
Of the few negative reviews, we noticed some people had issues with Aira’s communication, and several were skeptical about the figures Aira had provided. We’d always recommend doing a bit of your own research anyway, and we’ve actually got a handy guide on heat pump running costs you can turn to.
Aira Heat Pumps Pros & Cons
All heat pumps have their good points and bad points. Those from Aira are no exception — here’s our list of the pros and cons of Aira heat pumps:
Pros
High efficiency (SCOP 4.7) and low running costs compared to old gas boilers and electric heating, supported by AI-driven technology that optimises your heat pump’s output.
A 15-year ‘Comfort Guarantee’ promising an indoor temperature between 18˚C-22˚C. Aira says it’ll fix it if this guarantee isn’t met.
An extended 15-year warranty covering parts, labour, and performance. Most heat pumps normally only come with 7-10 year warranties.
24/7 monitoring making sure your heat pump runs as best it can.
Average score of 4.5 out 5 on Truspilot.
Cons
Upfront costs are still £6,800–£11,000 even after applying the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, higher than the cost of a new boiler (£2,000-£6,000), potentially deterring some households.
Occasional reliability complaints — some reviews we saw mentioned inconsistent heating in retrofits.
Installation requires 2–4 days and space for outdoor units (up to 150 cm high), which may be more disruptive than smaller, simpler systems.
Dependency on compatible tariffs (e.g., Octopus) for optimal savings; without them, efficiency drops below 3.5 SCOP in some cases (especially during the colder winter months).
The 8 kW and 12 kW models reach 51.3 decibels (dB), which while not exactly loud, is above rivals such as Mitsubishi’s Ecodan range (45–48 dB for the Ultra Quiet PUZ-WZ model).
How Aira Compares to Traditional Installers
Choosing to install a heat pump from Aira means all steps of the installation are managed and organised by Aira, which can make the overall process more simple. The heat pump, the technicians who’ll install it, and the post-installation monitoring is all handled by Aira, so solving issues or raising queries is more streamlined.
Because Aira manufactures its own heat pumps too, it can more reliably offer a 15-year guarantee. Most installers typically offer shorter warranties of 7-8 years or so.
Traditional heat pump installers in the UK also tend to source their units from multiple manufacturers, and use subcontracted teams. There’s nothing explicitly wrong with this approach, but it can lead to the experience feeling a bit more fragmented.
The downside to Aira’s approach is that its available heat pumps might not be suitable for all property types. Other installers can instead source a heat pump from various manufacturers to meet different needs for more property types.
Who Are Aira Heat Pumps Best Suited For?
Aira’s heat pumps are best suited to mid-sized UK properties (100–250 sq m) with moderate insulation levels. Its heat pumps can also reach a flow temperature of 70°C, so while it’s usually best to install new radiators when switching to a heat pump, it is possible to retrofit an Aira heat pump into an existing radiator setup.
If you’re on a tariff such as Octopus Cosy, an Aira heat pump is a great option. The tariff offers lower rates during off-peak periods, and an Aira heat pump can comfortably pre-heat your home and hot water tank when electricity costs are lowest.
Who Might Aira Heat Pumps NOT Suit?
Very small or very large properties might want to consider looking elsewhere. For smaller homes, even Aira’s 6 kW option could be overkill, and you’d likely end up spending more heating your home than you otherwise should. Larger homes (those above 300sq m) would likely require a more powerful heat pump (16 kW units are a good choice).

Conclusion
Aira is, in our opinion, a fantastic heat pump company offering top-quality units, efficient installations, and excellent post-installation monitoring and service. Its Aira Intelligence technology is the real deal too, and the accompanying app is super simple and makes it easy to quickly adjust the heating in your home.
We’ll give another shoutout to the 15-year warranty as well, which is above the industry standard and proof Aira is confident in the quality of its heat pumps.
