- How To Choose a Heat Pump Installer
Heat pumps are one of the best ways to keep your home warm, without burning fossil fuels in the process.
And, a heat pump could even save you money - especially if you pair one with the right energy tariff, or replace your old boiler with a heat pump.
Crucially, most UK homes are suitable for heat pumps too. They might sound complicated to the uninitiated, but installing an air source heat pump (the most common type installed in the UK) is actually pretty simple.
Cost wise, this is where heat pumps do get a bit more complicated, though the UK government has made it a lot easier with the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS). This can reduce the cost of installing a new heat pump by up to £7,500! Not bad right?
So if you’re settled on getting a heat pump installed (and if you’re still unsure, read why installing a heat pump is worth it), you’ll want to know who the best heat pump installers in the UK are.
We’ve got you covered; our expert team reviewed the UK’s best known heat pump installers. Instead of simply ranking them from best to worst, we reviewed what each installer excelled at. Every home is different after all and subsequently, so is what people will look for in an installer.

How We Picked the Best Heat Pump Installers
Don’t worry, we didn’t pull each installer out of a hat and call it a day - we used a robust methodology. First and foremost, every installer featured here is certified by the Microgeneration Certification Scheme (MCS). This is the UK’s quality mark for renewable energy systems, including heat pumps and solar panels.
We also factored in whether an installer had Renewable Energy Consumer Code (RECC) accreditation, and NAPIT, which are both Government-approved certification bodies. All installers featured had TrustMark accreditation as well, which is a Government-backed quality scheme for home installations.
Other factors we considered were:
Warranties and guarantees - All installers featured here offer robust product guarantees, though make sure to check with each installer before you make a decision because they can differ. Also, we looked at the warranties available with each installer.
Customer reviews - We read countless reviews for heat pump installers on TrustPilot and Checkatrade, the two most reliable sources of customer feedback.
Customer service - Installers got bonus points for their level of customer service. Factors such as response times, how they dealt with feedback, and the level of post-installation care had a lot of weight in our rankings.
Product quality - Installers offering heat pumps from known and trusted manufacturers (such as Aira or Mitsubishi) scored highly. Rest assured that all installers featured here provide top quality heat pumps.
Experience - While heat pumps are a pretty new technology (compared to traditional boilers at least), some installers are backed by many years in the heating industry and are well placed to install heat pumps with expertise.
Value - The overall value offered by an installer is important. We didn’t just want to pick the cheapest installers, but wanted to consider a mix of cost, value for money, any added incentives, and cost transparency.
Grants - All installers in this list accept the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, but some made using this option clearer from the get go.
Finance options - We looked at what finance options each installer offered, prioritising installers providing finance options from trusted finance companies.
Best Overall Installer: Dwellow
Our pick for the best overall heat pump installer in the UK is Dwellow. Its exceptional customer service (including thorough surveys making sure each installation is as smooth as possible), value for money, and fast installation times are making Dwellow a popular choice for homeowners.
We’re big fans of the installation process in particular - you get your quote, then Dwellow’s team will have a chat with you and run through the installation from start to finish.
It can be a bit daunting switching from a tried-and-tested gas boiler to a heat pump, but Dwellow make the whole process as clear as can be.
And, once your heat pump is installed, Dwellow offers fantastic aftercare. We dived into numerous reviews praising the Dwellow team for quickly addressing any teething issues and people were keenly recommending them. We also noticed several reviews highlighting the friendliness of the teams sent to install the heat pumps and how efficient they were.
Dwellow also install heat pumps from manufacturer Vaillant, whose aroTHERM heat pump we included in our list of the most efficient heat pumps you can get.
Pros
Excellent customer service
Detailed surveys and bespoke solutions for complex installations
Nationwide coverage
High praise from customers happy with the installation process and aftercare support
Also installs solar panels and storage batteries
Cons
Not as many reviews as some of the larger installers
Finance Available?
Yes - 0% interest-free loans for up to 24 months on selected air source heat pumps, and longer-term finance agreements up to 10 years at 12.9% APR). You can combine these with the BUS.
Best Warranty: Aira
If you want a warranty you could bet your house (or heat pump?) on, then Aira is comfortably the best installer to choose. The Swedish company makes the heat pumps it installs, and it’s this connection as both installer and manufacturer that helps it offer an incredible 15-year warranty - and it’s concrete proof Aira trusts its products.
Aira also uses its own trained engineers to install its heat pumps, so you know you’re getting experts who understand every facet of the heat pumps they install. The aftercare is very good too, and we noticed in many of the 5-star reviews on TrustPilot that Aira were exceptionally quick to resolve issues. One customer had an Aira engineer at their property fixing an issue within 20 minutes of making a call!
Aira heat pumps are a little more expensive, but it’s a price you pay for the product quality and industry-leading warranty.
Take a look at what we thought of these Swedish heat pump maestros in our Aira review.
Pros
Outstanding 15-year warranty on product, installation, and performance, exceeding competitors
Heat pumps engineered in Sweden, so you know they’ll cope with the cold weather
Great reviews highlighting quality aftercare and installations
Cons
Aira heat pumps aren’t ideal for either very small or very large properties
The company has only operated in the UK since 2023
Finance Available?
Yes, you can get heat pump financing with zero upfront costs, flexible terms of 5 or 10 years at a 9.9% fixed interest rate, and monthly payments starting from £88.55. Aira accepts pairing financing with the BUS, and you can make early repayments too.
Best Value Installer: Octopus Energy
Yup, Octopus Energy, one of our favourite green energy suppliers, also installs heat pumps. And, it does this while offering incredibly good value for money - Octopus claims you can get a heat pump installed for as low as £500 when you combine an installation with the Boiler Upgrade Scheme.
Now realistically, you probably won’t get a heat pump installed that cheaply, but the installation costs are definitely at the lower end of the market. Plus. you get the peace of mind knowing you’re getting a heat pump installed with one of the best reviewed energy companies around. At the time of writing (January 2026), Octopus had a 4.8 out of 5 star rating on TrustPilot.
You can also save money by combining an Octopus heat pump with the supplier’s Cosy Octopus tariff. Octopus reckons you can save around £241 on your annual energy bill on this tariff by shifting your heat pump usage to different hours.
Like Swedish company Aira, Octopus also makes its own heat pump (the Cosy 6), but it offers heat pumps from more reputable brands such as Daikin too.
Pros
Great value for money; heat pumps can even match new boiler costs after the BUS grant has been applied
4.8/5 stars on TrustPilot, from hundreds of thousands of reviews
Tariffs that work well with heat pumps, such as Cosy Octopus
Cons
Doesn’t yet cover Scotland and Northern Ireland
Potentially long installation timelines due to high demand
Rigid protocols may lead to overestimation of heat loss or unnecessary upgrades (some users were recommended radiators they didn’t necessarily need)
Finance Available?
Yes, Octopus provides financing for its heat pumps through Octopus Electric Vehicles Low Carbon Technology Financing (an Octopus company) for loans over 3-15 years at 6.9% APR. Alternatively financing is available through Novuna for 5-10 years at 9.9% APR. There are no arrangement or exit fees, with options for no upfront payment, and you can pair all financing options with the BUS.
Best Customer Service: UK Energy Management (NE) Ltd
UK Energy Management (UKEM) is our pick for the best customer service, and looking at its average score of 4.8 out of 5 on TrustPilot confirms this. We read countless reviews highlighting UKEM’s exceptional (and friendly!) team of installers, with several people pointing out how they explained the installation process clearly and conducted thorough property surveys.
Also, responsiveness and efficiency were mentioned frequently. UKEM prides itself on being an installer who offers minimal disruption when installing heat pumps, and customers seem to agree.
Crucially, UKEM’s aftercare and support is excellent - it’ll handle any paperwork surrounding grants, so that’s a weight off anyone’s mind who prefers to avoid paperwork. Post-installation checks are standard too, and we saw that people were really pleased with how UKEM responded to and dealt with any issues with the heat pumps it had installed.
Pros
Excellent reviews on TrustPilot, with an average score of 4.8/5
Professional, knowledgeable teams offering thorough surveys and installations
Nationwide coverage
Leading aftercare
Cons
Not as many reviews as larger installers such as Octopus Energy
Finance Available?
We couldn’t find specific details on UKEM’s finance options, but according to the website UKEM as a credit broker (not a lender) through Shermin Finance Limited, offering finance options subject to status and affordability.
Best for the Boiler Upgrade Scheme (BUS): Warma UK
All of the heat pump installers listed here accept the Boiler Upgrade Scheme, but Warma stands out from the crowd by actively promoting it on its website. This way, people curious about getting a heat pump and visiting the Warma website get clued in on the BUS immediately.
We recognise that switching to a heat pump can be expensive, so it’s great to see an installer highlight so clearly that you can save up to £7,500 with the BUS grant.
Warma installs Samsung heat pumps, which we featured in our list of the best heat pump brands. Samsung heat pumps can be pricier than other brands, so it’s just as well Warma makes enquiring about the BUS as simple as possible.
Pros
Upfront and proactive about how you can save money on its heat pumps with grants
You can also get solar panels, storage batteries, and EV chargers
Transparent and competitive quotes
Solid TrustPilot review score - 4.5/5
Cons
Some people had issues with installation timelines
The focus is on Samsung heat pumps, so brand choices are more limited
Finance Available?
Again, we could track the specifics of Warma’s finance options, but similar to UKEM, Warma operates as a broker (not a lender) for credit facilities from one lender, with finance subject to application and status.
Best for Performance Guarantee: Heat Geek
Heat Geek offers what we believe is the best performance guarantee of any heat pump installer in the UK - its unique efficiency guarantee.
Basically, you get a guarantee that your heat pump’s performance will match the efficiency quoted on your proposal. You’ll be paying the quoted price to run your heat pump, and if efficiency drops below this (and you subsequently pay more than what you were quoted), Heat Geek will send out an engineer to fix this entirely at its expense.
Heat Geek installs high-efficiency models such as Vaillant aroTHERM heat pumps, so generally it’s unlikely the efficiency guarantee will be needed. However, if it is, you’ll be grateful you picked Heat Geek.
You can get a better understanding of how heat pump efficiency works in our article on SCOP & SEER ratings explained.
Pros
The performance guarantee is unique among installers
Highly trained, vetted installers
Very well reviewed, with nearly 5 stars on Which?
Nationwide coverage
Cons
Potentially higher upfront costs
Some users reported having to pay for another survey when switching installers, despite Heat Geek saying its survey would be accepted
Finance Available?
No, Heat Geek doesn’t offer a direct finance scheme for heat pump installations. Heat Geek will handle all the paperwork for the BUS however.
Best for Integrated Renewable Solutions: Glow Green
Want to install heat pumps, solar panels, and a storage battery? Glow Green is our pick for the best installer when it comes to integrated renewable solutions - and this includes EV chargers.
What’s great about Glow Green’s approach is the fact you can use the installer to cover your entire renewable system, without interruption. Sometimes, sorting out each element of a renewable system can be complicated, as you’re often waiting on different suppliers to decide when they can install.
Also, Glow Green is a verified Tesla Premium-certified installer, so you’ll get premium storage batteries such as the Powerwall 3.

The go-to installer for all-in-one renewable solutions
Excellent reviews on TrustPilot (4.7/5)
Nationwide coverage
Product warranties up to 30 years
Cons
Some complaints about communication
Occasional issues with aftercare support
Finance Available?
Yes, Glow Green provides flexible payment plans, including 0% APR finance over 2 years (subject to status), and accepts the BUS grant.
How To Choose a Heat Pump Installer
Choosing the right heat pump installer is important, because the last thing you’ll want is a dodgy installation leaving you paying thousands to get it replaced and/or fixed. A good start is considering the installers above, but here’s what you should keep in mind when searching for a heat pump installer:
Make Sure the Installer Is Accredited
Always prioritise installers with MCS accreditation. This is a government-backed scheme making sure installers follow strict quality guidelines for design, installation, and the products used. It’s also mandatory for installers to have MCS accreditation to claim the BUS grant. So without it, you’d not be able to save £7,500 on the cost of a heat pump.
Honestly, installers without MCS accreditation should be avoided.
Get Multiple Quotes
Don’t just settle on the first quote you get - shop around a bit and try to secure quotes from at least three different heat pump installers (try for five!). Factor in what’s included in the quote, such as heat loss calculation, system sizing, and the brand of the heat pump.
Also, quotes should ideally be based on a home survey. Some companies offer free or low-cost surveys, so keep an eye out for that. Finally, fixed-price quotes from companies such as Dwellow or Octopus are a great way to keep surprises to a minimum.
Research the Installer
Try to find proof of an installer’s expertise by looking out for things such as the number of heat pump installations done (often listed on an installer’s website), and what people think of an installer on review sites (TrustPilot, Checkatrade, and Which? are the most reliable).
Consider the brands the installer uses too; brands such as Daikon, Mitsubishi, Vaillant, and Worcester Bosch are all trusted manufacturers.
Ask the Installer Key Questions
When talking with an installer, consider asking the following questions to get an idea of what to expect:
How will you calculate my home’s heat loss?
Do I need any upgrades (radiators and insulation improvements)?
How long will installation take? It shouldn’t be much more than four days total, but of course every property is different.
Can you break down the quote for me?
Specifically for the heat loss survey, make sure the installer considers full heat-loss calculation, room-by-room emitter checks (radiators and/or underfloor heating), hot-water cylinder sizing, pipework assessment, and siting of indoor/outdoor units.
